Mercury (of the Metal Men)

It started with a copy of Metal Men #14 I'd snatched up for a dollar at a free comic book day sale. The copy was dinged up and there were pages missing in the middle, but it was a read unlike anything else (fun, wacky, classically implausible sci-fi goodness). And I just knew, when Platinum tried to drown that hussy at the beach, that I was hooked on MM fever. Of course my next experience with the team wouldn't be nearly as pleasant.

Back in 2010 Doom Patrol entered into the Blackest Night crossover scene, bringing back dead DP members to fight the current roster (which was was more or less the original team). The issue was fine, nothing to write home about, but it also had a Metal Men second feature in the back. This second feature was horrible. The characters were unlikeable, the villains weren't interesting, and on the whole it had a mean spirited quality to it.

What worked with the original Metal Men were, even if they bickered constantly (especially Mercury and Platinum), they cared about one another. And they were a team willing to put it all on the line, charging headfirst into the next fight even if the chances of survival were slime to none.
